Mask obligation in Bavaria

There is a restricted "mask obiligation" (coverage of mouth and nose). It relates to the use of public transportation ("ÖPNV") and when entering shops.
Besides, there can be specific duties for wearing a mask.
The "mask obligation" is valid until further notice for all staff members, all customers and their companions in enterprises of wholesale and retail with client transport as well as in shopping malls and sales stands on markets.

We kindly ask you to always carry your mouth/nose protection (mask) with you during your holiday in Oberstdorf and to use it for example during your visit to the Tourist Information Office.

Do children also have to wear a mask?

Kids up to their 6th birthday do not have to wear a mask.

Can I buy a mask in Oberstdorf?

Mouth-nose coverage and masks can be bought in many shops in Oberstdorf. Reusable masks can be bought in our Tourist Information Office at the "Oberstdorf Haus" at a price per piece of: 2,40€.

Holiday in Oberstdorf

Until May 30, 2020 it is not allowed for any host to rent accommodation, subject to correction.
Especially for a private purpose no overnight possibility is to be offered to any tourist.

How soon can tourists spend their holiday in Oberstdorf?

During the press conference of the Bavarian government on May 5, Governor Markus Söder announced that holidays will be possible again in Bavaria starting on May 30, 2020.

Are all hosts allowed to open on May 30th?

Overnight hosts such as hotels, guesthouses, apartments, camping sites, youth homes can re-open under consideration of restrictions and with hygiene concepts.

What do these restrictions mean to our guests?

• In all public areas of hotels etc. there is a duty for the use of mouth-nose-coverage (mask). This mask is not to be taken off before you enter your room/apartment and not to be taken off before you reach the table in the restaurant. A minimum distance of 1.5 m has to be kept.
• Please inform yourself prior to arrival about the hygiene concept at your booked house in order to be prepared as best possible.

Ban of overnight stays for persons of counties with more than 50 new infectionns/100 000 inhabitants

The Bavarian government has issued a changed regulation of the 6th Bavarian infection protection regulation and entry quarantine regulation for guests of risk counties. Hosts are not allowed to accommodate guests of a county or a county-free city, who arrive from another state of Germany or live there, where the number of new infections is higher than 50 new infections of the corona virus SARS-CoV-2 per 100 000 inhabitants in the past 7 days prior to the planned arrival according to publising of the Robert-Koch-Institut (RIK). This measure refers to the provision of all accommodations.

The Bavarian Government has decided not to allow inhabitants from this counties with more than 50 new infections per 100 000 inhabitants to spend a holiday in Bavaria, unless they show a negative corona test not older than 48 hours.

Can I return to my secondary residence in Oberstdorf for a visit?

The curfew was changed into a contact limitation. According to the Bavarian Interior Ministry it is allowed again to visit a secondary residence. Please keep distance in common rooms and keep to all hygiene rules. Avoid groups to minimize infection risks (more details: https://www.corona-katastrophenschutz.bayern.de/faq/index.php).

Booking and cancellation
What happens if there is another travel warning due to this pandemic?
I booked but I am unsure, if I really wish to start my journey. Which possibilities do I have?

Please contact your host in this case. Without an official travel warning the conditions of each single host will apply.

Arrival
Is an arrival to Oberstdorf possible?

The initial restriction has been changed into a contact restriction, therefore travelling to Oberstdorf is possible again. All public parking areas are open.

With whom may I travel?

May I travel to Oberstdorf for holidays together with friends and acquaintances?

How many persons may arrive together?

According to the official hygiene concept for all accommodations a maximum of 10 persons of different households may use one accommodation unit together.

Is there a regular connection by railway to Oberstdorf?

Please check the connections on the website of the "Deutsche Bahn" (also available in English). There can be restricted offers due to the connection of your choice.

Bus connections / limitation of capacity / minimum distance

Due to the corona virus there are specific rules on lots of bus routes."Information about bus timetables for the region:

In all busses there is a mask obligation, therefore there is no regulation for a minimum distance to be complied. But, of course, all guests are asked to keep a minimum distance wherever possible.

There is no limitation of capacity.

Hygiene material has been installed at present.

Bus tickets can be bought on the bus, as well as at the pre-sale point.

Gastronomy

All restaurants, cafés etc. have worked out protectional hygiene concepts and will apply them.

Restaurants are open

All Restaurants, cafes and alps are open, under consideration of hygiene concepts.

At all restaurants personal data is collected, in order to be able to trace possible infection chains in a better way. Also, a mouth-nose protection is necessary on the way to the table and on the way to the restrooms. A Minimum distance of 1.5 m has to be kept.

Which rules will apply in restaurants?

All restaurants and associations have worked out safety and hygiene concepts. The following information is already clear:

• at all restaurants, cafés etc. you have to use a mouth-nose coverage (mask), on the way to your table and outside and on the way to the restrooms and back. At the table no mask is needed.
• limited number of guests
• distance rules have to be complied
• personal data is collected (name, fon number, date of visit, time, table number…) in order to trace infection chains

Golf course Oberstdorf is open!

The golf course opened on May 11.

Public guided tours can be offered again from June 8 on!
Every Monday and Thursday at 2 pm guests can join the guided tour.

Opening of outdoor swimming areas

Naturbad Freibergsee (natural swimming area at lake Freibergsee)
Restaurant and rental of boats are open. Closing days are subject to changes at short notice due to weather conditions.
The natural swimming area and lawn are open daily from 10.30 am - 6 pm on good weather days with a limited number of persons, waiting is possible. Hygiene concept will be applied.

Moorbad Reichenbach (mud bath in Reichenbach)
Restaurant is open.
Bathing with lawn is expected for July, at present no opening date is known.

Moorbad Oberstdorf (mud bath in Oberstdorf)
Opening is planned for July 9, daily from 10 am - 6 pm (only in good weather). Hygiene concept will be applied. Limited number of visitors, waiting is possible.

Boat rental at lake Freibergsee is open!

The boat rental at lake Freibergsee is open. Of Course, this is only possible if restrictions (contact addresses have to be collected, mask obligation on the jetty etc.) are complied.
Please watch the signs.

Audi Arena (Ski Jumping Hill) is open

Audi Arena and the "Erdinger Sportalp" will open on May 30 for visitors.

Please obey the rules for general hygiene restrictions and conditions about minimum distance, as well as general conditions during a visit. You will find this information at the entrance of the Arena.

Allgäu Coaster and high ropes course are open

The Allgäu Coaster (luge riding) and high ropes course open ed on May 30, 2020.

Please consider that the cable car "Söllereckbahn" is not in operation in this summer due to construction. Therefore, the high ropes course can only be reached on foot by using the hiking trails.

From June 16 on you can visit our local museum again.

Are hikes and mountain tours allowed?

In general, hikes are allowed again.
However, the health system should not be burdened and all activities with a risk of injury should be dispensed with.
Due to old snow areas we highly discourage from hikes at a higher altitude.

New - supplement to usual equipment

Besides a general first aid equipment you also need a mouth-nose coverage (mask) as well as disinfactants.

How do I behave while hiking?

Distance and hygiene rules have to be obeyed also while being on hiking trails.

How do I behave in case of first aid in the mountains?

First responders have to behave as usual with all necessary first aid rules. Additionally a mouth-nose protection is to be used.

Are mountain schools open?

Cultural events

Major Events are prohibited until the end of August. This may be prolonged.

We will inform you in our calender which major events will take place in detail.

New rules from July 8 on: the limitation of persons has been changed and raised in Bavaria up to 200 persons for outside events and 100 persons for events inside (in closed rooms).

Are the shops in Oberstdorf open?

Yes, the shops in Oberstdorf are open.
All customers are required to wear a mouth-nose coverage (mask). For every 20 square meter one customer may enter the shop. From June 22 on 10 square meters per customer will apply.

Are hairdresser shops open?

Yes, hairdresser shops are open under consideration of restrictions, protectional and hygiene concepts. Please make an arrangement in advance.

Trips into our region
Can I travel to the "Kleinwalsertal" (Austria)?

The travel warning from the German Foreign Ministry is repealed from June 15, 2020 on, a journey/trip to the Kleinwalsertal (Austria) also due to private touristic matters is possible again.

Entering the country over the "green border", e.g. Hörnlepaß, Straußberg, Söllereck, Breitachklamm, is now allowed again.

These rules apply for day tourists as well as for guests with overnight stays.

Do I have to go to quarantine after visiting the Kleinwalsertal?

According to the Bavarian entry-quarantine regulation of May 15, 2020 all persons from the member states of the European Union, and thus also entering from the Kleinwalsertal to Germany, are not obliged to go to quarantine for a fortnight anymore.

Please inform yourself about the latest entry and exit rules on the website of each state ("Bundesland").

Health & Help
How do I react in case of an infection?

Should you have symptoms (cough, fever or respiratory problems) please inform your host immediately and stay in our room/apartment. Dial 116117 - the phone number of the medical service. They will inform you about a further procedure.

How many CoV infections are registered in the region of the Oberallgäu?

Latest numbers of corona infections in the region of the "Oberallgäu" can be found on the COVID-19-Dashboard of the "Robert Koch Institute".

Monday - Friday 9 am - 5 pm

For our Tourist Information Office at the Oberstdorf Haus we have developed a broad protection and hygiene concept, which will be applied from day one.
• Please enter the Oberstdorf Haus from the north side of the building.
• Access to the Oberstdorf Haus will be organised by a concierge.
• You can only enter the Oberstdorf Haus with a mouth-nose coverage (mask). A mask can be bought at the conciere for 2,40 €.
