Length: 21 km Elevation gain/loss: 970 m
Duration: 7 hours
The mountain hike starts with a leisurely trail from the Mühlenbrücke bridge to Dietersberg in the Trettachtal valley. From here, you head through the rugged Hölltobel ravine as you climb steeply to the picturesquely located, historic mountain farmers’ village of Gerstruben, which invites you to enjoy a short, well-deserved break. The route then leads you below the majestic Höfats, deep into the Dietersbach valley to the eponymous Alpe. This is your last chance to stop for a refreshment break before the route climbs steeply through Alpine terrain to the Älpelesattel.
The trail over the Älpelesattel into the Oytal valley leads along near-natural mountain paths through Alpine terrain. This is where the general hike becomes a mountain one. Take particular care on the ascent, especially in wet conditions – try not get too distracted by the many flowers!
