On reaching the Lochbachtal valley, the climb becomes easier. In the Zwiebelmoos, an array of very rare and protected flower species await your discovery. In the areas that are particularly boggy, wooden planks take you across the protected biotope. The route then runs below the Piesenkopf and crosses the eponymous Alpine pasture. In the company of countless cattle, you’ll then continue to the north-east slope of the mountain. As you climb, the views become ever more expansive. On reaching the summit, the spectacular vista spans from the Nagelfluhkette mountain range in the north to the Oberstdorf mountains in the south-east.
The pleasant descent to the Piesenalpe is relatively short and varied. The small, picturesque chapel near the Sennalpe is particularly idyllic. You’ll surely be enticed to stop for some refreshment at the Piesenalpe, not least by the spectacular view of the Gottesackerwände. The last part of the subsequent descent along the Alpine road back to Rohrmoos seems never-ending, but is nice and easy.
